Naturally, I enjoyed reading the interview based on Tobias Wolff. Reading the interview gave me a more precise idea of how to go about actually doing it. I enjoyed many aspects of the interview which I could go on and on about– the intricate details (especially the physical appearance of this amazing author), the other authors involved in Wolff’s life, Syracuse University, other books and short stories to read, the debate of revising a previous work, and so on.
I wanted to explain what this article made me realize, an minor epiphany if you will. I don’t know a whole lot about Tobias Wolff. I have unfortunately only read This Boy’s Life, which I highly recommend if you haven’t read it yet. Having completed the article, which really made me feel as if I knew Tobias Wolff after reading it, it made me realize that I might enjoy interviewing an author I am completely unaware about. Naturally, I think it would be enjoyable to interview someone I know; however, after reading this article on an author I did not know a whole lot about, I think I might find a thrill in someone completely random. Does that make sense? Hopefully it does somewhat.

Responding to the Interview of Toby (weird to refer to him that way) Wolff

Yes, I think I do know what you mean. I think that in some cases, when you interview someone that you dont know, you may notice more details and first-impression type details. I also liked reading this piece because I thought that it was a different type of interview. Most of the interviews I have read are in celebrity magazines where it only shows the question asked and then the answer. These seems dry to me in comparison to the interview of Wolff. I am excited about my interview now that I see how much detail can go into the writing process!

I agree with you, Willis. Not only about your epiphany but of your post as well. I think Wolff wounds like a really down to earth guy. After all he’s been through it’s no wonder he writes. I’d love to read some of his work.
I was also in your predicament of wanting to interview someone you’ve been familiarized with; however, I can see, through your post, that interviewing someone you know nothing about, or have read nothing they have written, might be interesting. Thanks!
