Ok, so as Stacia mentioned on her last post, I did mention the idea of us doing a multigenre piece for the Ink Peppers publication. It would be about college life through our experiences. I think that it would be really cool if people could take different aspects of the college life like applying to college, getting into college, college classes, stress of work, experiences at college, etc. We can all do a different genre and I think that it will look really interesting. Amanda would like them as soon as possible so if you think that you have something that you would really like to do let me know! When we are all done with different pieces we can piece them together into a substancial paper to put in the publication. I hope everyone in class contributes something to this, the more the better!

After brainstorming for a bit, I think that I would like to do a funny piece, maybe a poem, on dorm living and include fire alarms as part of it. In my building we have had alot of fire alarms,(not fire drills!!) for very silly reasons. Once, someone’s hair was steaming too much from the hair straightener. Another time, someone decided it would be a good idea to put a peep in the microwave (thats right, a marshmellow easter treat!). And once someone tried to make Ramen noodles in the microwave WITHOUT WATER! I think that a humorous piece would be a good contribution and lighten up the pieces about stress and work. Let me know what you think about these ideas!

I think that I am going to write about APO, which is the community service frat. that I am in. I would defintely recommend that people write about different acitivities that they are involved in.

Yes, these all sound great! You should share yours next week at group. I think the Peppers would laugh and enjoy hearing about what life will be like for them in the future. We’re moving along finally on the production of the magazine, which has honestly been much harder than I thought. Three of the Peppers are learning In Design (the complex Adobe publishing software), but if you have anyone at the college who would be willing to train us, that would be amazing! Thanks for your input yesterday. The kids ask about you regularly. Also, one thought… instead of focusing on individual mentors (this is our first time to try this), maybe we should just have you all break up with small groups of Peppers each week for an activity that you lead. Thoughts? This way it won’t matter if “your” Pepper is there or not. Out of the 45-50 kids, you can see that there is a great deal of change each week about who comes and who doesn’t. I don’t push the kids to come, so one kid might not come for a couple of weeks or come late/leave early because of a sport or another activity. The small groups might help you connect better with the kids and let you try out some of your own ideas. Thoughts? Also, any suggestions about ways to collect the writing we work on each week. Everyone writes, but then I don’t get my hands on much of it after that. This is all new.. thanks for tagging along with us. Let’s meet sometime without the kids. Thoughts?
