Ink pepper Families

Filed under: Hanging with the Ink Peppers — Autumn B @ 3:00 pm

On thursday withthe Peppers, Amanda proposed an acivity that was somewhat “outside of the box.” She split up suny students with ink peppers and said we were now a family going ona vacation. We decided who was who in the family, where we were going, and how we were to get there. After that was all figured out each group was free to roam the school and find a spot to write in for about a half an hour. When we got situated we wrote about the trip and had to include a tragic event that happened which led us to CHS.

I worked with Stacia, Jackie, Kiera, Peter, and Kate. We were on our way from Maine to Cali, but on the way Grandma, or Peter, got hit by a John Deer tractor, hence the title: Grandma got runover by a John Deer.

Everyone came up with great stories. It was a good way for us to get to know some of the peppers we were not familiar with.

  1. Sounds like an interesting exercise Autumn. What are you noticing about these writers? Can you be more specific? Did you get my email about B. Block this afternoon? K

  2. I could not believe the stories that the students came up with. When I was discussing it with my group members, the topic of selkies came up. It was extremely interesting. I found the students eager to write down the ideas. I would really like to incorporate something like this in a classroom.

  4. I notice that some are more serious than others. Now that I have been to the advanced peppers meetings, I could notice the different kinds of levels of writing that exist in Thursday meetings. My group actually got a little side tracked talking about school policy, and the issues students have with some of the rules at school. All in all, each pepper has something different to bring to the group. Some of the students I work with are still opening up to their writing, but I think participating in this group will definitley bring them out of their shell!-Aut
