I know that some people have already posted about the activity we did with the Peppers this week, but I just wanted to write about how I think that the family vacation activity could be incorporated into the classroom. When I am a teacher, I could do this fun activity along with a lesson about story telling. I could show them how stories progress with a beginning, middle, and end. I could also show them the triangle diagram that we have all seen with the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. The students could still work in groups and plan out their story using the triangle diagram. Then, they could work together to write their story and even share them with the class. The class could try to find the climax and resolution in the other groups’ stories. I think that this activity would be a great way to introduce the elements of a story and also use creative writing skills!

Good thinking Stacia, how did you or your group envision the family vacation exercise? KES

My group actually had a very silly story. We did the story line by line (we passed it around in a circle while we each added a sentence). It was hilarious to read in the end. We began with Grandma getting run over by a John Deer, but the twin children wanted to continue on the trip to Disney. To make a long story short, the mom got mad, and the Grandma ended up surviving. It was a great way for us to get to know the peppers better.
