You are all owed a huge apology. I thought that iTunes U supported text (Word) as well as audio/video files.
I’ve done some more investigating and of course have discovered that I was wrong. It does support pdf. texts so your docs would have to be converted to pdf. in order to post. How many of you are able to do that?
Forgive me for the time it has cost you to try to do the impossible.
This was an important learning experience for me.
Please send your multigenre paper as a word doc–as an attachment–to me in the next few days.
If you can convert to a pdf file try it..and let us know you were able to accomplish it. Thanks!!
I AM SO SORRY…KES
Dear Teachers, Is this what all of you are doing:
Log into bannerweb, click the ‘launch suny cortland itunesu button.’
Then launch iTunesU as a student.
Once iTunesU opens in iTunes under the iTunes store heading, click on the link for SUNY Cortland courses, then on the link for the Teaching Writing course.
Click on the ‘Student uploads’ tab where you will see an ‘upload and manage files’ link at the top right of the screen.
iTunesU only accepts .w4a, .w4v, .mov .mp3 and .pdf files.
Hope this helps!
Let me know what happens!!
Beautiful night last night–I was so very proud of all of you.
I’m in my office on Monday–do come by. You can turn in your 408 folder anytime Monday afternoon.
Love, Karen
Dear Teachers, How are you doing working through problems with iTUNES? I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone tonight. Love, KES
Dear Teachers, I really enjoyed our lunch today–a lovely time for me. Thank you so much for the card. That was such a thoughtful gift. I hope you will continue to post to the blog–way too soon to stop writing. I encourage you to post on anything we talked about today at lunch.
I will be in my office on WED between about 2:45 and 4:00 if you are turning in your 408 portfolio on WED. THURS I will be in later in the afternoon before the INK PEPPERS dinner.
Then I will be in again on MONDAY. Our semester is not over–until the middle of next week. So do continue posting and responding on the blog.
Amanda and I talked tonight and the kids are very excited that you will be coming on TH night. I look forward to seeing you at the dinner. KES
If you emailed me text tonight for feedback I will not most likely not be able to read and respond until after my grad class on Wed. I have to read grad work tomorrow morning and tomorrow night and I have meetings all day Wed. before the grad class meets. I moved this class so that I can come to the Peppers dinner on TH. That means I’ll be home after 8 o’clock on Wed. night.
I just don’t want anyone to be disappointed by not getting feedback tonight. If you would like feedback on any piece for the 409 portfolio, please let me know what it is you are concerned about in that particular piece. Re-send it with a specific focus on that/those area(s) of concern.
I am happy to grant an extension under those conditions. Of course.
If you would like feedback before submitting any pieces for 408 I will be able to and will offer that feedback on TH. That still gives you until Monday the 12th to make any revisions you would like to make. Thanks for understanding it’s unlikely I can read work the night before it’s due given my other class commitment. But I am not at all averse to granting an extension.
Let me know. And don’t worry. The goal is to show what you have accomplished and to produce insight about those accomplishments. And I know you are all doing just that. KES
P.S. Are you putting your thank you letter about/to your host teacher in your 409 folder? Of course!!
I’ll be in closer to 11:30 due to having to call a prospective host teacher on his free period.
So hours are 11:30-4:00 today…hope to see you. Karen
Even before I read Willis’ post which asked me what I thought about yesterday I was planning this post. Thanks for asking Willis.
I was moved and inspired by all of you yesterday. I saw teachers working with their students. Your work w/these students proves exactly what I was saying in class before the session–you have every reason to be confident about your teaching lives.
I saw you “in relationship,” with these kids, listening, encouraging, laughing (that was the best part!), sharing, demonstrating flexibility, reading, writing and being “present” with the Peppers.
That was wonderful for me to observe.
I felt like an intruder and it was hard for me to walk the fine line between wanting to interject and of course wanting to simply stand aside and observe.
I did think that I began an important conversation–a number of writers quickly opened up about the work they are doing–work that I would like to see you nurture if we were going forward.
The Peppers are playful and serious, vulnerable and cocky, wanting someone to “see” them to quote Amanda’s HUNGER, which I went to see last night.
You shouldn’t miss this production if you can make it on SAT night. Amanda’s play is about an Eng. teacher and her writing group (there’s much more to it) but I know you would all find it compelling given your insider status w/the Peppers.
How did you wrap up on TH? I was so sorry I had to leave for my class.
Did you think the writing from the pictures exercise was valuable?
I would like to read all of your own reflections on your specific experiences with your group on TH…time for reflection. Now! KES
Please do post on the readings including the Newkirk chapter–pick a couple of the readings to compare/contrast for example–today or tomorrow a.m. before class. It’s important to stay focused right up till the end. Groan!! We had a good discussion yesterday–I highly value and affirm the insights you have developed this semester, many of which were on display yesterday in class talk.
I’m reading non-stop and will see some of you this afternoon at the student teaching meeting if you have any other papers to turn in for feedback. When you send me an email attachment, please do indicate that you are inviting feedback toward revision or not!!!
I am also continuing to explore the publication possibilities at instantpublisher.com. I’m having some difficulty understanding the directions. You can check them out on this page. What do you think? Possible?
Also, do let us know which of the sites I posted below seem to you to be most inviting/appropriate to encourage students’ publishing online. Thanks. KES
