While I was writing my “My Turn” essay, a million things passed through my mind. I was having a difficult time focusing in on my topic, because I feel that it is an important topic to discuss. I am using the blog to discuss my essay and get my thoughts across. Hopefully, this will help transform my essay.
I wrote about being a Jewish woman in Cortland. Everyone thinks, “Oh, you’re going to a SUNY school? You will have no problem finding Jews there.” This could not be farther from the truth. I don’t pick my friends according to religion or anything like that. If you’re nice to me, I’m nice to you. However, it is nice to have someone who knows your religion and can directly relate to and understand your morals and values. Anyway, I have never faced as much anti-Semitism at home as I do in Cortland. It seems strange, but it’s the truth. I am aware that many people are naive and do not know many Jewish people, but it still hurts when someone is negative. Ahh-okay, I’m finished venting. I hope I did not offend anyone, and I am sorry if I did. I just felt that this is an important subject for any person of any religion.
Now I can go and work on the essay. Hopefully I can focus on the specifics and my mind won’t be all over the place. I will see you all tomorrow, and again, please don’t be offended by this post. Love you guys!
