My Short Take : Upstate or Downstate?

Filed under: Short Takes, Uncategorized — krismark @ 10:15 pm

I was a bit perplexed when trying to decide what to write for this piece.  From what I gathered about the other short-takes, they consisted of a life experience that stood out to the author, changed them in some way, and had a moral.

For my This I Believe paper, I wrote about Smiling.  For my My Turn Essay, I wrote about my outter body experience post surgery.  Therefore, two of the topics that seemed most meaningful to me at the moment were “untouchable.”  So I brainstormed for a bit, and finally found a topic that I thought would be interesting, and that revealed a little more about myself as a person to my audience.

I ended up writing about my life in New York City and a fork in the road that led me to leave home.  I enjoyed writing this piece, however, I really appreciated and enjoyed the feedback I received. The underlining once or twice method is not only meaningful to me, but it pushes me to focus on specific aspects of my piece.  This method is definitly something I would use in my future classroom.  What do you guys think?

I was talking to Krystina and we were extremely confused.  For tomorrow’s class, do we have to read the short takes or write our own? Thanks :)

Short Takes

I really enjoyed the short takes articles.  As I was reading, I loved how true they were.  The writers were completely honest with the audience, and in some cases, they were also funny.

My favorite article was Brady Udall’s One Liar’s Beginnings.  I feel that everyone can relate to it because we have all lied at some point in our life.  It was interesting how she remembered one of her first lies, and she realizes how she has “changed the world” with that one lie.

This has caused me to think about what I want to write about.  I am extremely excited about this assignment!
